About 2015 ISO TC46 meeting

The 42nd ISO TC46 plenary, subcommittee and working groups meetings will be held from 1 to 5 June 2015 in Beijing, China.

As an international forum held once a year, the meeting brings together top-level experts in the domains of library, museums, information science, and records management and other relative sectors. The representatives come from about 40 countries and discuss face to face issues concerning the policy, practices, service and products about information and documentation standardization. The international standards developed under ISO TC46 have a globally wide influence on the information and documentation professions.

Scope of ISO TC46

TC46 is made up of groups of individuals that are recognized experts from their respective professions and industries. They also represent their national countries interests in formalizing the products of TC46.

Standards developed under ISO/TC 46 “Information and documentation” aim to facilitate access to knowledge information and to help to develop appropriate automated tools, computer systems and services to obtain the information owned by libraries, archives, museums and enterprises. These standards give rules to identify, index, classify, access, select, exploit, communicate, exchange and preserve, both paper-based and digital information. The standards in the field of information and documentation impact not only all the various cultural communities, but also all associated industries.

Uses of ISO TC46 international standards include librarians, staff of museums, and staff of documentation centers, archivists, editors of books, and publishers…with the growing volume of information available online and in various electronic forms, and the development of various electronic communication devices, the number of users of libraries and documentation centers also include online visitors, including private individuals and students.
